          clearly see a Victorian cobbled walk way. In the days of long
          flowing  dresses  the  carriage  men  would  have  to  keep  these
          cobbled areas free of horse manure, so the ladies of Greystones
          would  not  get  their  dresses  soiled.  Across  the  road  is  Bell’s
          Clothing Shop. In the footpath near the shop are a number of
          manhole  covers  marked  DCWW  (Dublin  Corporation  Water
          Works).


              Next we headed for the Carrig Eden Hotel, one of the many
          temperance hotels in Greystones. In the postcard of the 1940s,
          below, a close inspection will show that an extension was under
          way at the hotel.

              The future boathouse of the coastguard station is ready for
          action selling HB Ice Cream, with two bicycles parked outside.

              In  the  1974  image  of  Carrig  Eden,  below,  note  how  the
          skyline is dotted with TV masts.
